Information & requirements for Passport Related Inquires

Process of New Passports

  • New Sri Lankan passports can be applied by any of the following applicants;
  • Person who poses a passport which will expire soon or has expired already .
  • Person who poses a valid passport but with out pages for visa stickers.
  • Children who were born out side Sri Lanka with Sri Lankan Nationality .
  • Person who have lost his/her passport .

Requirements

  • 3 colour photographs [3.5 x 4.5 cm]
  • ( Two copies of the Following should be submitted with the Original )
  • Birth Certificate. ( original – if the Passport is lost)
  • Personal Identity Card ( if available)
  • Marriage Certificate [If changing the maiden name]
  • Previous Travel Document/Passport [If available]
  • Valid stay permit.
  • Citizenship Certificate if the applicant is a citizen of Sri Lanka by registration.
  • Statement from the Town hall confirming present Nationality.
  • Written consent from both parents - For Children under 16 Years of age.
  • Certified copy of the entry made at the nearest Police Station – In case of a lost passport .

Time duration

Under the present structure at least 08 weeks are required for a new passport to be received from the Controller General of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Sri Lanka and handed over to the Applicant.

Alterations/ Amendments to the Passports

Renewal of Passport

• All ‘M' series and some of the ‘N' series Passports can be renewed up to five (05) Years.

Requirements

(Copies of the Following should be submitted with the original)

  • Valid stay permit.
  • Statement from the Town Hall confirming present Nationality as a Sri Lankan .
  • Birth Certificate.
  • Marriage Certificate (if the Maiden Name has been changed).

Inclusion of Child Photographs in parent's passports

  • If the child was born outside Sri Lanka , inclusion can only be done with the Citizenship Certificate of the child.
  • If the Birth Certificate has been issued by the Embassy, then an application can be entertained for a New Passport.
  • An ‘N' series passport has to be sent to the Controller Immigration & Emigration in order to include a child photograph.

Requirements

•  03 colour photographs [3.5 x 4.5 cm] of the child

(Copies of the following should be submitted with the originals.)

Citizenship certificate of the child (If borne outside Sri Lanka ).

  • Birth Certificate of the parents.
  • Valid stays permit of the applicant.
  • Statement from the Town Hall confirming present Nationality of the applicant as a Sri Lankan .
  • Written consent from both parents for the inclusion.

Change of Name

Name of the passport holder can be change if the following requirements were fulfilled. For ‘N' series passports, please be noted that the request will be forward to the Controller General of the immigration & Emigration Department.

Requirements

(Copies of the Following should be submitted with the original)

  • Valid stay permit.
  • Statement from the Town Hall confirming present Nationality as a Sri Lankan .
  • Marriage Certificate (if the Maiden Name has been changed).
  • Relevant document proof under any other request.

(An ‘N' series passport has to be sent to the Controller Immigration & Emigration in order to alter the name)
