Visa Requests
Tourist Visas
Dutch Nationals as well as Nationals of countries listed in Schedule "A" may visit Sri Lanka for 30 days without obtaining a visa prior to arrive in Sri Lanka, provided they are travelling as bona fide tourists with valid passports and travel tickets for their onward journey. Such persons may obtain a visa free of charge on arrival in Sri Lanka .
Non Tourist Visas
Visas are required for persons proceeding to Sri Lanka as bona fide tourists but to stay over 30 days or for other purposes such as business, educational assignments, research, employment, filming, voluntary work in social service organizations, working with non Governmental organizations, Officers designated to diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka and other international organizations or to join their spouses in Sri Lanka.
Categories
1. Visit Visa - Foreign nationals who desire to enter Sri Lanka for tourism, vacation, or visits over 30 days.
2. Business Visa - Foreign national visiting Sri Lanka for business purposes
3. Entry Visa - Diplomatic officers/ volunteer workers/ NGO personnel/ University students/ other than 1, 2 above.
* Gratis Visa could be stamped for Diplomatic officers/ official passport holders/ Journeys on ground of International courtesy.
Issuing of Visa
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Netherlands will issue visa for the above categories only if the following requirements are fulfilled.
Requirements for visit visa
- Valid Passport has to be produced and such passport should not be expired. The expiry date of the passport should be at least two months, beyond the period of the applicants intended stay in Sri Lanka .
- 2 Passport size [3.5 x 4.50 cm] colour photographs
- Copies of a return air ticket confirmation
- Proof of the availability of sufficient funds for the entire stay in Sri Lanka - A letter of guarantee from a bank or the latest bank statement should be produced.
Requirements for Business Visas
- Letter of Invitation from Sri Lanka
- Letter of Guarantee from the employer
- Valid Passport has to be produced and such passport should not be expired. The expiry date of the passport should be at least two months, beyond the period of the applicants intended stay in Sri Lanka .
- 2 Passport size [3.5 x 4.50 cm] colour photographs
- Copies of a return air ticket confirmation
Requirement for Entry Visas
- Clearance Letter from the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka / Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka
- Valid Passport has to be produced and such passport should not be expired. The expiry date of the passport should be at least two months, beyond the period of the applicants intended stay in Sri Lanka .
- 2 Passport size [3.5 x 4.50 cm] colour photographs
- Copies of a confirmed air ticket
Requirements for a Gratis Visas
- Note Verbale from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands / In the event of a journey on grounds of International courtesy, Note Verbale from such organization.
- Valid Passport has to be produced and such passport should not be expired. The expiry date of the passport should be at least two months, beyond the period of the applicants intended stay in Sri Lanka .
- 2 Passport size [3.5 x 4.50 cm] recent colour photographs

Residence Visas
Residence Visa is issued by the Controller of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo , Sri Lanka . Please contact the Embassy for further information.
Multiple Entry Visas
Multiple entry visa is valid for three (03) months with a maximum duration of stay at each entry not exceeding one (01) month. Multiple entry visa will be issued only for Business visa applicants.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION WHEN APPLICATION IS MADE FOR A VISA -
Collection of visa application forms, submission of visa application forms and collection of visa can only be done during consular hours
An application for a visa must be presented at least one month before the intended date of travel.
Applications for visas should be made on forms which may be obtained online or from the Consular division of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in The Hague .
The application form should be complete (all cages of the application should be filled) and the signature of the applicant should be placed. Please note that incomplete applications forms will be rejected.
Two (02) recent colour photographs should be submitted along with the application
Visa fees should be paid where ever it is applicable (please see SCHEDULE 'B' for visa charges)
All other requirements applicable for specific visa categories mentioned above should be fulfilled.
